Our Basis of Unity

SMAC is a consensus-based, non-hierarchical organization dedicated to building progressive community and a culture of resistance on campus.

We strive to be fully inclusive and are committed to upholding anti-oppressive ideals.

We believe that education is a right and should be accessible to all.

We value education for its own sake and resist attempts to further commodify  our schools.

We believe that the university is a place for the development of critical thought, not a place to train workers for the capitalist economy.

We oppose the corporatization and militarization of our campus.

We are committed to resisting and raising awareness among students of the anti-democratic structures and processes on campus.

We aim to work for change, building democratic and participatory on-campus alternatives rooted in student involvement while facilitating connections with progressive social movements.

We are committed to creating a just, free and equitable campus and society through mobilization, creative resistance and direct action.
