B3K 5M4 | The Halifax Anarchist Black Cross is an organization committed to prison abolition and the creation of a new social order free of capital, the state, colonialism and all forms of hierarchy and oppression. This entails the abolition of prisons for they serve no purpose but to protect the upper classes who reap inconceivable profits through their continued existence. We believe that in the struggle against capital, the state, colonialism and oppression of all types - repression occurs. That is why many of our comrades find themselves facing long prison sentences for their efforts. Thus, the Anarchist Black Cross Halifax Chapter plans on developing the groundwork for legal defense and support for those incarcerated by the state. This will entail a number of different approaches: - Anarchist/class struggle/Indigenous struggle prisoner support through education - the dissemination of literature on prison abolition, the Green Scare and the lives of today's prisoners. - Support by writing prisoners and supplying them with literature. - Support through the accumulation of funds for legal defense - a Warchest. - Support by building connections with the local legal community. An Anarchist defense organization is of crucial importance in the struggle against the current social order. We see the establishment of a Halifax Anarchist Black Cross as an example of an Anarchist defense organization that would not be afraid to support those who are committed to radical social change. |
